Guitar Lessons

On top of playing and recording, I’m also a guitar teacher, currently based in South London. If you’re interested in learning the guitar, you can contact me directly at lukegodwinlessons@gmail.com

I’ve been teaching guitar for over 10 years, specialising in electric guitar across as many genres as I can wrap my hands around and teaching students of all ages (3 to 73 so far because it’s never too early or late to start).

Yep, I really do think that you can start learning an instrument at any age…

I was originally self taught, then attended music college and then formal guitar lessons… and still do!

Lessons can be held online (via Zoom), at my house, or I can come to you for a small additional charge, depending on distance / transport costs – this generally starts at around £5/lesson on top of lesson fee. Please let me know your preference when getting in touch.

I like to make sure lessons are fun and engaging because I believe these are the most important aspects of learning an instrument.

I am fully DBS checked and all lessons are tailored to the student’s needs and what they want to get out of the lessons.

Prices

30 mins – £25
45 mins – £33
1 hour – £40

For beginners and younger children, I generally recommend 30 min or 45 min lessons. We can always increase lesson lengths as fingers get stronger.

Reviews

“My daughter has absolutely loved her guitar lessons with Luke. Every week she returns enthused and excited about what she has learnt. Luke is a very talented musician and teacher but what sets him apart is his infectious enthusiasm. You can see he has a real passion for music and he infuses this into his lessons and passes this enthusiasm onto his students. My daughter quickly grasped complex concepts and progressed rapidly under his tutelage. Luke has a dynamic personalised approach and worked with my daughter’s preferred musical styles while showing her great tips and ideas to improve her playing. He has years of experience in the music industry himself and this shows in the ideas and suggestions he makes with whatever my daughter is working on at the time. I have no hesitation in recommending Luke as a talented, inspiring and encouraging guitar teacher.”

“Our 11 year old son wanted to start guitar lessons a few years ago and as we were searching for a teacher we happened to see an advert for Luke, offering lessons online. It’s been just over a year now and the progress has been amazing. Our son loves every lesson and this is a real compliment to Luke whose teaching has been fantastic and who encourages our son in the music of his own preference. Can’t recommend highly enough!!”

“Cannot recommend Luke highly enough, by chance I saw an ad on Facebook and requested lessons for my then 13 year old daughter, Luke offered lessons at his home, studio or to come to ours at a small fee. We choose for Luke to come to ours and the small fee was worth it, he was punctual and with the lessons, committed, extremely patient, encouraging and my daughter thrived under his guidance, he also helped advise us in the care and maintenance of my daughter’s guitar.
As a parent I thought my daughter sounded amazing and her progress so good but it was the comments from her school music teacher that really highlighted Luke’s influence and teaching skills.”

“I found Luke on Instagram from him posting a Christmas advent calendar lesson for the 25 days of Christmas, so I sent Luke a message to see if he did online lessons as I had migrated to Australia. Luke replied rather quickly and said that we could arrange a time that would suit us both as the time difference is about 10 hours between us. He asked what it is I would like to focus on in our lessons as I could already play so I told him I had no idea of scales and theory so he built our lessons around that. So for the last year we have been having lessons every 2 weeks and I have improved vastly. I would highly recommend Luke as a teacher as he has extreme patience and is very devoted to teaching and the making of music.”

“We booked some lessons with Luke to keep up practise over the summer holidays. Luke formed a great relationship with Luca really quickly and Luca looked forward to each lesson. Luke built on the school based lessons so that Luca was both consolidating knowledge and learning new skills at the same time. Now just the small matter of practising!”

The Boring Stuff…

I do ask that all students provide at least 48 hours notice of any cancellation to avoid full charge for missed lessons. Last minute cancellations leave little opportunity to replace the hours lost; providing notice enables me to offer slots to students on the waiting list.

As an active working musician, there is the possibility that lesson times may require slight alteration and rare, but possible cancellations due to performance commitments. I will always provide as much notice as possible for any alterations and endeavour to find alternative times / methods for any lessons that require such changes (such as Zoom video call lessons, instead of in person).
